More than Just a Cruising Cat; Geminis Sail Worldwide
The first Gemini Legacy 35 to sail in European waters will make her debut at the Southampton Boat Show, September 13-22. Although not the first Gemini Catamaran to cross the pond, the brand new Gemini Legacy 35 will make a splash among the UK sailing community.
History Repeats Itself
In 2001, the Gemini catamaran made her first European appearance with the Gemini 105Mc. Original Gemini designer, Tony Smith, and son, Neil Smith, crossed the Atlantic in a Gemini 105Mc to deliver her to Portsmouth, England.
It took 23 days…
The twenty-three day transatlantic journey proved that a Gemini Catamaran is more than just a coastal cruiser. During the trip, the Gemini 105Mc proved her worth after facing several gales, some with 35 foot waves and winds over 40 knots. The innovative hull design and solid foredeck exceeded expectations as the Gemini sped down large waves and her bows remained unburied. Tony and Neil documented their journey. Watch the video here.
Creating a Legacy
June 15-16, the Gemini Legacy 35 was featured at the 2013 Portsmouth Multihull show. Even though she is small in comparison to the larger cats, guests lined up to see the sleek and sporty Gemini Legacy 35. With her official UK debut taking place at the Southampton Boat show, the Gemini Legacy 35 is expected to be a showstopper.
Although the Gemini 105Mc made a lasting impression with sailors in the UK, guests of the Portsmouth show who are familiar with the older style Gemini loved the advances in the new 2013 Legacy model.
"Clearly, the Legacy retains the best aspects of the original Gemini while adding some new tricks. Twin engines on a Gemini, a radically updated cockpit and an incredible level of fit and finish - the new Gemini is just phenomenal," said Bruce Davidson, a former catamaran owner.
With tweaks to enhance comfort and convenience, the tradition of excellent boat building and performance sailing continues on with the Gemini Legacy 35.
