The West Indies

The West Indies archipelago is 4.760 km (2.000 miles) long, it stretches as an arch from the occidental end of Cuba to the small Dutch Aruba Island off Venezuela. The Windward Islands form the oriental part of the arch and stretch over about 1.000 km (630 miles) from the Virgin Islands to Grenada. Martinique is located in the middle of this arch surrounded North by Dominica and South by St. Lucia. Here are various sailing areas you may choose from:

The Catamaran Company

Indians used to call it "Madinina, flowers' island", because of its lush tropical vegetation. It is right in the middle of the West Indies archipelago and is part of the Windward Islands. Martinique is about 7000 km (4400 miles) far from France and 440 km (270 miles) from the American continent. It is the most Southern island of the French West Indies. Its two nearest neighbours are the English-speaking islands Dominica and St. Lucia. Martinique is 70 km (44 miles) long and about 30 km (20 miles) wide and its surface is 1100 km² (420 square miles). A French State since 1946, this island will delight you thanks to its geographical, botanical and social diversity.

Day 1: Anse Marcel ( St. Martin )

Day 2: Anse Marcel / Anse Colombier ( St. Barth ): 12 NM
Anse Colombier is a part of the Marine Reserve and a great spot for snorkelling: get out the flippers, diving masks and snorkels !

Day 4: Gustavia / Grand Case ( St. Martin )

Day 5: Grand Case / Virgin Gorda: 90 NM. Sailing during the night.

Day 6: Virgin Gorda Sound / Marina Cay
Paradise ilet: Outstanding beach encircled by the coral reef dominated by a restaurant offering seafood and BBQ for dinner.
Day 7: Marina Cay / Jost Van Dyke
First stopover at Sandy Cay, an unavoidable snorkelling spot. Further to Great Harbor, the only village of Jost Van Dyke. Great atmosphere at night in Foxy's Bar.
Day 8: Jost Van Dyke / Cane Garden Bay
Excellent anchorage close to a nice beach framed by coconut trees. Visit the rum distillery.
Day 9: Cane Garden Bay / Norman Island
Stopover at The Bight. Follow the steep path to pour discover at the top a breathtaking panoramic view. Further to the National Parc of Private Bay to explore the caves by dinghy.
Day 10: Norman Island / Peter Island
Swimming, relaxing and snorkelling and as well nice hikes inside the island to find great panoramas.
Day 11: Peter Island / Road Town ( Tortola )
After a last bath heading for Road Town, the capital of the British Virgin Islands to check out. Rent a car and discover the National Park of Mount Sage and its rain forest.

Day 1: Anse Marcel ( St. Martin )
Welcome in the Marina of Anse Marcel in the North of St. Martin and boarding for the night.
Day 2: Anse Marcel / Orient Bay ( St. Martin ): 5 NM
A short sailing trip to Orient Bay, a long sandy beach with restaurants and animated bars.
Day 3: Orient Bay / Anse Colombier / Gustavia ( St. Barth ): 14 NM
Anse Colombier is a part of the Marine Reserve and a great spot for snorkelling: get out the flippers, diving masks and snorkels! A stopover in Gustavia is a good opportunity to taste the cosmopolitan animation in tax free shops and restaurants lining this charming harbor.
Day 4: Gustavia / Basseterre / White House Bay ( St. Kitts ): 45 NM
An island with a rich historical past St Kitts is as well famous for its volcanic massifs. Hikers might like to undertake the ascent of the Mount Miserey . The interior of the crater is disappears under the rain forest inhabited by colourful birds and monkeys. The capital Basseterre and its houses in pastel colors decorated by verandas with balustrades has a very British charm. Don't miss to do some provisioning at the colorful stalls of the public market that offer all kinds of fish and other market products.
Day 5: White House Bay / Charlestown ( Nevis )
Pleasant stopover at the capital of Nevis. The esplanade at the waterfront with its kiosks, colorful restaurants and boutiques is very charming. Excellent local food specialities at reasonable prices. White House Bay is a peaceful anchorage with a very beautiful beach of white sand.
Day 6: Charlestown / English Harbour ( Antigua )
Tour the ancient home of Admiral Nelson from the 18th century which has been nicely renovated: Admiral's House Museum. In the evening the steel-bands create a great atmosphere in the bars and restaurants - don't miss it.
Day 7: English Harbour / Non Such Bay ( Antigua )
This anchorage, very well protected by Green Island and a big coral barrier, is one of the most pleasant of Antigua. Have a look at the exhibition of local arts and crafts at the old windmill of Harmony Hall.
Day 8: Non Such Bay / Deshaies ( Guadeloupe ): 45 NM
The most famous anchorage of the leeward coast is facing a pretty village nicely arranged around its church tower. Several boutiques and traditional Creole restaurants. Take the opportunity to join an excursion to the National Park of Basse Terre.
Day 9: Anse Deshaies / Pigeon Island: 10 NM
Don't miss Cousteau's Underwater Reserve, a real coral garden. Enjoy the sunset on the Malendure Rock.
Day 10: Pigeon Island / Les Saintes: 20 NM
The geographical diversity and the beauty of this micro archipelago of less than 15 km² is incredible. Unforgettable view points from the high "Mornes" which are accessible by walking or biking under the watching eye of the Iguanas. Magnificent creeks and beaches.
Day 11: Les Saintes / La Dominica: 22 NM
Far from the usual tourist itineraries: Dominica offers its tormented relief topped by a rich green vegetation from which gush spray and waterfalls that supply the lakes with cool or steaming water.
Day 12: Dominica / St. Pierre ( Martinique ): 55 NM
Former economic capital of Martinique, St Pierre became very quiet nowadays but there are still some local restaurants, small shops, a supermarket and a local market. The museum concerning the devastating eruption is very interesting.
Day 13: St. Pierre / Anse Mitan ( Martinique ): 15 NM
Close by you find a good choice of restaurants, bars and boutiques in this quartier of Trois Ilets.
Day 14: Anse Mitan / Grand Anse d'Arlet / St. Anne
The beautiful sandy beaches of Les Anses d'Arlet are lined by coconut trees. A typical creol landscape with its colourful fishing boats, huts and stalls. Pass the famous Diamant Rock before anchoring at St. Anne, one of the most beautiful beaches of Martinique.
Day 15: St. Anne / Le Marin: 21 NM

Welcome at the base. Boarding for the night.

Early departure to Rodney Bay in St. Lucia. Crossing the channel may require visual navigation. Night in Marigot Bay, former hurricane shield now a bit crowded, so anchorage off the shore recommended.

Sailing along the natural coast of St. Lucia the day follows the rhythm of short navigation and excursions: Anse Cochon, la Soufriére, les Deux Pitons.

Day 3: Marigot / Deux Pitons: 10 miles
Soft and easy navigation along the West coast of St. Lucia up to Soufriére, a picturesque village. Walking excursion through the city and the botanical garden, driving to the waterfalls, the hot water springs and the volcano. Overnight at Deux Pitons.
Day 4: Deux Pitons / Bequia: 50 miles
Navigation day down to Bequia (say "Bekouè"). Bequia, entrance to the Grenadines, is the former whale hunter's island. Anchoring in Admiralty Bay, facing the capital city Port Elisabeth. "Happy hours" at Frangipanier and dinner in one of the restaurants.
Day 5: Bequia / Mustique: 15 miles
Once customs formalities are done, short navigation towards Petit Nevis where the fishermen used to flense the whales. Then sailing to Mustique, the "Jet Set" island. Night outside the famous built on piles "Basil Bar".
Day 6: Mustique / Mayreau: 20 miles
Early morning touring of Mustique island, its beaches and villas. After lunch heading to Mayreau, anchoring at Salt Whistle Bay, a wonderful coconut trees beach (fabulous beach walking!).
Day 7: Mayreau / Tobago Cays: 2 miles
Short navigation to the Tobago Cays. Anchoring in the most beautiful Caribbean lagoon. Turquoise waters and white sand beaches, ideal for snorkelling, swimming and relaxing.
Day 8: Tobago Cays / Union: 5 miles
After one hour navigation stop over at Union, the capital of the Grenadines: airport, hotels, restaurants, fruit and vegetables market, ship chandler, Internet cafè etc..Overnight at Palm Island (½ mile from Union).

After breakfast heading to St Georges hugging the Grenada's west coast. Anchoring in the harbour, in the middle of one of the nicest Caribbean cities. Walking excursion through St Georges, dinner and night.
Day 14: St Georges / Port Egmont: 12 miles
Large and quiet bays in the middle of the rainy forest jag the south coast. To be very quiet, sail to Port Egmont is one of the safest shelters in the south of Grenada.
Day 15: Port Egmont / Prickly: 6 miles
Prickly Bay became yachting centre of Grenada's with its marina and the most beautiful sailing boat in the Caribbean. Nice choice of restaurants for having a dinner ashore.
Day 16: Prickly / Carriacou: 38 miles
Ready to sail back to Martinique. On the way to Carriacou, stop for lunch at Isle Ronde with perfect clear water and good snorkelling. Then sail on to Tyrell Bay; be careful at the entrance of the bay.
Day 17: Carriacou / Union: 6 miles
Before leaving Carriacou stop at the custom in Hillsborough to check out then sail on to Union to complete your check in. Anchoring at Palm Island in front of a wonderful coconut trees beach.
Day 18: Union / Canouan: 14 miles

Sail to Barbuda, a fabulous unspoiled coral island. Anchor at Codrington, in front of a beautiful white sand beach, lunch, swim, snorkel, stroll along the long deserted beach.
Day 11: Barbuda / St Barthelemy: 55 miles
After breakfast leave Barbuda and sail to Gustavia, capital of the French island St Barthelemy. Have lunch on the way under sail. Anchor outside the harbour and go ashore for a nice French dinner.
Day 12:Gustavia / Ile Fourche: 6 miles
Spend the morning shopping and enjoying the village's lovely local architecture. After lunch set sail for the wild deserted Ile Fourche. Swim and spend the evening on board.
Day 13: Ile Fourche / St Martin: 11miles
Enjoy a beautiful sail from Ile Fourche to Orient Bay on St. Martin, one of the loveliest anchorages on the island, with magnificent white beaches and clear turquoise waters.
Day 14: Orient Bay / Philipsburg: 7 miles
It's a short sail to Philipsburg, the Dutch side of St Martin, where you'll enjoy duty free shopping and nightlife at the casinos and clubs.
Day 15: Philipsburg / Anguilla: 18 miles
After breakfast there's a two hours sail to Anguilla. Anchor for lunch at Dog Island, a little island which shelters many species of birds. Explore the island, swim etc. Spend the night at Road Town, Anguilla's main anchorage which is well protected for the night.
Day 16: Road Town / Crocus Bay: 13 miles
A one hour sail brings you to Prickly Pear for lunch. A group of 'post card' islands, turquoise waters, white sand beaches, coral reefs, one of the most beautiful spots in the Caribbean for snorkelling. Spend the night in Crocus Bay.
Day 17: Anguilla / Saba: 40 miles
Leave Anguilla early in the morning to Saba. Saba is a Dutch island well known for its sites of diving. At Ladder Bay find a diving boat and spend afternoon in the turquoise water.
Day 18: Saba / St Kitts: 42 miles
After breakfast heading to Canouan via Chatam Bay, a large natural bay west of Union, pleasant for having lunch. Night in Charleston Bay (Canouan).
Day 19: Guadeloupe: 90 miles
Back to the French island Guadeloupe passing to north of Montserrat, this volcanic island which entered in eruption in 1997. Anchor in l'Anse à la Barque charming shelter bordered of coconuts trees.
Day 20: Guadeloupe / Dominica: 60 miles
Set sail to Dominica for Cachacrou Bay, small village of fishermen. Very good snorkelling on Scott's Head. Dinner on board.
Day 21: Dominica / Martinique: 55 miles
Leave Dominica early morning for the last big sail to reach Martinique for lunch in Grande Anse d'Arlet. After sail to St Anne, a charming village with its boutiques, fishing boats and local market. Try one of the numerous restaurants.
Day 22: St. Anne / Marin: 2 miles
After a last swim in a heavenly bay (turquoise water, white sandy beaches) back to the Marina of Marin (30 min.) where the Dream Yacht team will take care of you.
