Boat Description

Expedition, luxury, performance and build quality define this world-class catamaran. A rare find, built with a specific purpose in mind – to sail the world’s oceans.

Her designer is the award-winning firm Du Toit Yacht Design, who has produced more custom catamaran meters and tonnage than any other yacht designer in the southern hemisphere.

This Two Oceans 750 is expertly built in a sandwich construction, using epoxy E-glass with a PVC foam core. She has a fixed keel and a spade rudder using laminar flow foil sections custom designed by Du Toit Yacht Design. Two Oceans Marine are renowned as industry leaders and specialists in building custom-designed luxury catamarans with exemplary build quality and attention to detail. The cost to build a similar-spec vessel would be astronomical.

Arguably the most compelling feature is the enclosed flybridge with 360-degree panoramic views and complete protection from the elements. This gives the helmsman and crew the ability to explore the most remote destinations regardless of the weather. High-latitude destinations come to mind along with the traditional tropical cruising itinerary.

She is currently operated by a full-time liveaboard family who have embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. They have sailed through Southern Africa, crossed the South Atlantic and have now spent several seasons exploring the waters of the Caribbean. When asked what they love most about their yacht, their consistent answer is, “her ability to sail, and sail properly at that.”

Most luxury catamarans in this size range are not built for circumnavigations but rather for the charter market and fair-weather sailing. The Two Oceans is built for both and has proved this during her short lifespan on the water. A good example would be the Cape to Rio race in 2014: when a third of the fleet were forced to abandon the race due to heavy weather, she kept course, finished in a total of 28 days at sea and arrived in pristine condition.

Selling Features

This is a yacht of elegance, with beautiful lines and intricate features. The interior has been designed for effortless ocean living as the easily accessible spaces are open and free-flowing. HQ² boasts a spacious saloon and galley with all the comforts one could ask for on a luxury holiday, including a full sound system, an entertainment area in the saloon, multiple fridges and freezers and high-quality galley appliances.

Moving out of the saloon into the spacious aft cockpit, one finds plenty of comfortable and stylish custom-made outdoor furniture and a bar area with a BBQ and a fridge on teak decks. Interior soles are solid European oak with furniture modules made from stained oak veneers. Du Toit Yacht Design worked very closely with the owner on the design and style, paying close attention to detail and resulting in a simple yet magnificent interior.

On the sheltered flybridge one comfortably pilots the yacht while seated on comfortable chairs, using electric winches and jammers, and there is a comfortable sitting area so family and guests can join the skipper once the boat is under sail or power.

The Open Ocean 750 has a large tender on the aft deck launched by an integrated boom crane, and a smaller tender on the foredeck with a crane davit to launch her. There is abundant locker and storage space for dive gear, ropes and other toys. In the hulls aft are powerful engines for fast and efficient steaming, with a bow thruster for easy maneuvering and docking.

Her impressive rig, with an air draft of almost 34 metres, was designed and built by Southern Spars of Cape Town. HQ²’s sail suite includes a mainsail, working jib, screecher, spinnaker and storm jib.

Accommodation below is luxurious, comfortable and versatile. The catamaran has ample accommodation for family, crew and guests, and could sleep twelve people easily. The port hull occupies the owner’s suite aft and a guest suite forward, both with spacious en-suite heads and showers, with a crew cabin forward of that.

The starboard hull has another guest suite aft and the children’s cabins forward, with an upper and lower single berth and a forward v-berth that can be converted to a double. Both the guest and children’s cabins have en-suite heads and showers, and there is also a day head for guests.

The vessel boasts a massive systems room for easy access to the boat’s systems.

The Open Ocean 750 sailing catamaran is a perfect example of how the close collaboration of the boat builder and designer, working with the owner at every step of the project, can create the perfect ocean-going vessel and home. Two Oceans Marine and Du Toit Yacht Design have shown this to be true over and over, and HQ² is a true work of art from the team.
