Boat Description

GLASS DECKS! Here’s your chance! “Little Wing” is a nice example of what Hinterhoeller used to refer to as “the greatest thirty-foot sailboat of all time.” Her quality construction is apparent everywhere you look, and her sailing abilities will surprise you.

Most sailors are surprised by the roomy interior, aided by a nice wide beam and the mast placement forward. With an exceptional interior including a large L-shaped galley, oversized quarter berth, luxurious main salon and a wonderfully comfortable forward owner’s stateroom, “Little Wing” is one of the best of the legendary 30′ Nonsuch Ultra sailboats to come on the brokerage market. She is in great condition and is a joy to handle, nicely maintained by an owner who treasured her for over a decade. She is a must see.

The Nonsuch is the inspiration of Gordon Fisher, who, with yacht designer Mark Ellis, approached George Hinterhoeller to build a comfortable cruising boat that would be easy to sail from the cockpit. This idea has produced over 950 boats from 22′ to 36′ that are enjoyed today by sailors of all types. Nonsuches are as unique as the sailors who love them.

She was built in Canada, whose main boatbuilding export has been C&C sailboats. When master boatbuilder Hinterhoeller created the Nonsuch he brought forward the values of C&C sailboats: a reputation for quality, good attention to finish detail and high-quality balsa-cored hull construction.

Launched in 1978, the Nonsuch 30 is an unusual boat by any standards. The unstayed wishbone cat rig is becoming increasingly popular and gives this design the general appearance of a traditional catboat. Her generally catboat-like hull dimensions produce the maximum hull volume on a minimum overall length. The Nonsuch Ultra 30 still stands out among club members and coastal cruisers as a sturdy, extremely well built compact cruising sloop ideal for family coastal cruising and gunkholing.

We think the Nonsuch Ultra 30 “Little Wing” is exactly what her designer and builder envisioned: the best boat possible for her size, and one of the nicest cruising auxiliary sailboats in the water. She combines quality construction and well-mannered sailing characteristics and offers her new owners the promise of a rewarding relationship.

She will make an excellent coastal cruiser for a couple or family with up to three small children or two older children. Because she is easy to sail and rig, has a big cockpit and a roomy, well-ventilated interior, she should make a good Caribbean charter boat for two couples.

The interior volume of the Nonsuch Ultra 30 is an eye opener, with beautiful teak bulkheads, a holly sole and updated brass LED lighting.

The waterline and beam of the Nonsuch Ultra 30 are about the same as that of a modern 36-foot cruiser-racer, and that beam is carried quite a bit further forward. Coupled with high topsides and a highly crowned deck house, this yields a boat with tremendous interior volume for her overall length.

Starting forward is the master stateroom with a double berth to port and a vanity and hanging locker to starboard, with excellent storage in lockers and drawers and a door that closes the stateroom off from the main salon.

The head is next aft to starboard with a separate shower stall and a teak seat in the shower with storage outboard. The galley is opposite to port. The main salon has a settee to port with bookshelves and a locker outboard.

There is a teak table which opens up to accommodate guests both port and starboard, and to starboard is an L-shaped dinette that converts to a double berth, giving a total sleeping capacity for five.

There are oil lamps below.

As you enter the center entrance cockpit companionway from below there is a teak grate for catching water, with three teak steps which will take you to a large, spacious and inviting cockpit.

The L-shaped galley features a large ice box with teak grate shelf, Force 10 stove, stainless steel sink and storage space above and below the counters.

On deck, the Nonsuch Ultra 30 features an attractive cabin profile and good-sized side decks with boarding access on both sides. The aft cockpit comes with a stainless steel and teak destroyer-type ship’s wheel.

There are teak cabin top handrails and bow and stern rails with double lifelines for secure deck work. The roomy cockpit features seating for a full crew, straight backrests with high combings, large seat lockers and engine controls, and the deck arrangement is well balanced.

“Little Wing” is ready for just the right person to begin a new adventure. Nonsuch boats are fast, comfortable, safe and easily handled, and they sport a huge interior volume with comfortable accommodations.

The cat rig, plumb bow and long waterline afford remarkable performance under sail or power. She will make a fine little yacht and the owner has placed this lovely boat on the brokerage market for her next discriminating owner.

She is a rare find, owned by experienced sailors; would-be buyers outnumber sellers, so if you are looking for a phenomenal, well-priced cruising sailboat, move quickly. “Little Wing” is well known by the listing broker. Call him today for more details.
