S/V Aquavite for Sale
Overview
S/V Aquavite is now on the market! This 1983 Nautilus 40 Pilothouse was built by Aztec Yachts in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, and designed by Henry Adriaanse. These vessels have a high-performance hull design built for offshore sailing with comfortable accommodations for cruising. This highly sought-after pilothouse is unique with two helm stations and a spacious interior layout.
Exterior Features
On the exterior, this vessel has a deep, roomy cockpit with storage compartments under the lazarettes. The decks are solid fiberglass with plenty of walk-around space. The helm station is equipped with a Raymarine autopilot, compass, and depth sounder. The bimini and dodger are new, installed in 2024.
Interior Features
The interior is a unique, open layout with another complete helm station in the salon, equipped with autopilot, a Standard Horizon HX400 handheld VHF radio, R-Com 718 SSB, and tuner. This is a one-cabin layout that sleeps two in the V-berth and two more in the quarter berths in the salon. Two steps down from the salon is the galley to starboard with a cozy dinette to port. The galley is fully equipped. Going forward, the head is on the port side with a Wilcox Critton marine toilet, and to starboard is a large locker. The V-berth has plenty of storage space throughout and a large hatch overhead.
Engine and Performance
S/V Aquavite is powered by a 1983 55 hp Perkins 4-108, fully rebuilt in 2024 with only two hours on it. Her sails are in good condition and include in-mast furling, roller-furling headsails, a spinnaker, and a staysail.
Owner’s Experience
The current owners have owned S/V Aquavite for 25 years and have been very happy with her. They say she is very reliable and easily sails to her numbers and points into the wind within 37°, which allows for quick, comfortable passages; she sails at a good pace of 6 knots in reasonable winds and has reached up to 7.7 knots at times. S/V Aquavite has been sailed down from Canada through the USA, the Bahamas, and all over the Caribbean and to Central America, finally to Guatemala. Since 2011, they have been cruising regularly in and out using the Rio Dulce as their home port.
Upgrades
Over the years, there have been several upgrades. The anti-fouling paint and the hull paint were done two years ago, and the bottom has just been cleaned by a diver.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a proven high-performance blue water cruiser, then S/V Aquavite is a must see!
