Boat Description

This sturdy South African-built, Fred Scholtz–designed, center-cockpit cruising vessel has proven her worth with a circumnavigation (2004–2017) under her keel. Calypso has several years cruising the coast of Southern Africa and the current owner left the shores of South Africa for the Caribbean and the east coast of the USA in early 2022. She was hauled in September 2025, after a summer in the Northeast.

The fine bow, 6’6″ draft, tall rig, encapsulated keel, and center cockpit make the Montevideo a fast, safe cruising vessel. The interior layout of the Montevideos and their sister ships, the Monte Carlos, was built to the specifications of their first owners. Calypso has three cabins and two heads, with a comfortable salon and a terrific galley. The interior joinery is spectacular, with many of the cabinet doors built with South African hardwoods. Engine access is from three sides.

The decks are fiberglass and were recently painted in September 2025, and a teak swim platform has been added with a hinged hatch that opens to allow easy access to the swim ladder and to the water.

Calypso is very well set up for cruising.

If you are looking for a reliable, well-equipped cruising vessel, come and see Calypso.
