Boat Description

The Caliber 40 is a recreational keelboat built of fiberglass with teak wood trim and created to meet the rigorous demands of the sea and the quality-minded sailor. When rough water makes most sailors miserable, a Caliber owner can cruise in comfort and with confidence. The Caliber 40 has retained its value as a result of superior building, a solid reputation, and a devoted owner base.

SEA GYPSY is rigged as a sloop with anodized aluminum spars, a bowsprit, a raked stem and a reverse transom for easy boarding from the dinghy. She sports a swing-down swimming ladder and a hand-held shower. She features a skeg-mounted rudder controlled by a large stainless steel destroyer-type wheel and a fixed fin keel.

The popular Caliber 40 is an ideal cruising yacht with good tankage, a comfortable deck layout for the short-handed sailor, and spacious accommodations. SEA GYPSY is an ideal cruising yacht with good tankage, a comfortable deck layout for the short-handed sailor, and spacious accommodations.

Known for uncompromising craftsmanship, exceptional stowage and seakindly characteristics, SEA GYPSY is one of the best values for a true blue water cruiser on the market. The current owner has had her for about six years, lived aboard in St. Thomas, sailed through the islands and up to Florida, and now SEA GYPSY resides in Fort Pierce, Florida, and is ready for careful onboard inspection.

The Caliber 40 was introduced in 1992, following in the footsteps of the famous Caliber 38 and was an instant success. World-class sailors appreciated her rugged construction, live-aboard interior and proven performance, making her exactly what many sought in a blue water capable yacht.

Fulfilling the promise and ability of blue water cruising, SEA GYPSY has come to the brokerage market and will go the distance in safety, comfort, speed and style as a proven offshore sailing machine, all at a remarkably affordable price.

SEA GYPSY meets expectations of swiftness, seaworthiness, durability, exceptional stability and comfort while sailing offshore or simply living aboard and cruising between local anchorages and yacht clubs.

SEA GYPSY will sail as far as you wish to wander. Her skeg-hung rudder, cruising-proven fin keel, excellent cockpit and safety features ensure a good ocean crossing that will be fast, comfortable and memorable.

If you are looking for a robust, well-designed cruising boat for blue-water sailing, come have a look at SEA GYPSY; she will fulfill your cruising dreams. Calibers have a well-deserved reputation for first-rate construction featuring solid fiberglass hand-laid hulls and decks, glassed-in bulkheads and interior furniture, and a skeg-hung rudder on a cut-away keel. The spacious living quarters below feature a dedicated nav station, an ensuite head in the owner’s quarters with a separate stall shower, a second head conveniently located near the companionway, and an aft cabin suitable for guests.

SEA GYPSY is ready to take you to the Bahamas and beyond, whether you are planning on cruising to the Mediterranean or heading south toward the Panama Canal. She has many special features and upgrades and is ready to get sailing again. Cruise equipped, SEA GYPSY is prepared to venture offshore once more.

This beautiful boat offers comfortable accommodations including the sought-after pullman berth, a main salon with a pull-out berth, and an aft quarter berth. Like all Caliber yachts, the salon settees and the quarter berth make excellent offshore sleeping quarters. The interior is dry, bright and comfortable with outstanding ventilation and finished in furniture-quality teak.

The interior is well illuminated and, starting forward, features a roomy head with its own separate shower and seating area to port, enclosed by a Plexiglas door. There is a stainless steel sink with pressure hot and cold water and ample storage above and below.

The sleeping quarters are true staterooms. Walking aft through the curved ship-styled door, you will find an expansive and private full forward cabin rather than a cramped V-berth, with a large offset pullman berth to port and abundant drawer and locker storage outboard.

To starboard is a sit-down vanity unit and hanging lockers, with an opening port and overhead hatch for ventilation, making this a comfortable stateroom in any weather conditions.

A wide teak-and-holly sole and numerous stowage areas throughout the boat are well known features of Caliber yachts. The teak battens on the cream-colored overhead panels contrast nicely with the polished teak throughout SEA GYPSY.

Moving aft is the warm and inviting main salon amidships with large comfortable settees to starboard and an L-shaped settee to port. The port settee pulls out to make a double berth, providing an exceptionally comfortable sleeping area for crew or guests. There are overhead grab rails, an opening overhead hatch, reading lights and screened ports throughout.

Especially desirable is the bulkhead-mounted teak table which folds away when not in use, opening the main salon for a spacious living area. The table converts to provide a larger dining surface and there is abundant storage outboard and below the settees.

Storage is abundant throughout SEA GYPSY with custom cabinets, bookshelves and large storage areas behind and under the settees, all on a heavy teak-and-holly sole.

Aft of the main salon and to starboard there is a second head conveniently located near the cockpit with a stainless steel sink and storage. With doors to both the aft cabin and the salon, this head can be accessed without disturbing other occupants and includes an ensuite shower.

The aft cabin provides a large berth and a generous hanging locker, offering comfortable accommodation for guests or crew.

To port is the spacious and functional L-shaped galley that the Caliber 40 is known for, with ample counter space, deep stainless steel sinks, a gimballed stove and oven with safety shut-off and a well-insulated refrigerator/freezer. Galley storage and flat working surfaces are abundant, making it a delight for the accomplished chef or crewmember to prepare meals aboard.

Next aft and outboard is a proper offshore navigation station and chart table with a comfortable seat and easy access to the companionway and cockpit. The nav station provides room for electronic equipment and convenient access to the electrical panel for system monitoring.

Additionally, the Pullman owner’s berth is equipped with lee cloths for offshore passagemaking and the port settee can form an additional double berth. Cabin fans provide circulation throughout.

The vessel is fitted with modern electronics and navigation equipment suitable for offshore cruising.

The electrical system has been upgraded to support extended cruising, including solar charging, an inverter and updated wiring with LED interior lighting.

The topsides of SEA GYPSY feature a large unobstructed deck and cabin top. Safe and secure deck work is ensured with raised bulwarks, nonskid surfaces, teak cockpit insets, handrails, anchor roller and stern rails, and double lifelines. The large, comfortable cockpit is designed for heavy-weather sailing, the mast is keel-stepped and the hull is white.

Safety equipment and features appropriate for offshore cruising are aboard and maintained for safe operation.

The rig and sail plan are set up for offshore sailing with internal halyards led to the cockpit and reefing and furling systems arranged for ease of handling and single-handed sailing.

The mechanical and plumbing systems support extended cruising with a reliable diesel engine, appropriate transmission and strainer systems, fuel and water capacity suitable for passagemaking, bilge pumps, and marine heads.

SEA GYPSY’s owner has decided to place this beautiful yacht on the brokerage market for her next discriminating owner. She is a rare find and is well set up for single-handed or couple cruising. SEA GYPSY has been thoughtfully and expertly outfitted, combining current technology for comfort and speed, resulting in a deck layout and interior accommodations consistent with extended liveaboard bluewater sailing.
