Layout & Accommodations

The main hull has over 6ft long seats each side of the centerboard case and table. These benches have been modified to give large single beds. A double bed can be made with the table removed. Forward of the main bulkhead is the toilet and shower. The galley and navigation are just inside the companionway hatch. There are extra berths in the bow and under the cockpit.

Galley

The galley has a two-burner stove with broiler. There is a sink with pressurized hot and cold water with foot pump backup. There is a saltwater pump. This Telstar was modified with extra work surface and storage. There is a 12-volt draw fridge under the cockpit steps. The navigation table is opposite the galley with a working surface and storage.

Deck & Equipment

The Telstar has a revolutionary folding system that is very strong and allows the beam to be reduced from 18' to 8'6" in seconds. As the amas come in they go down and increase stability. The other revolutionary feature of Telstar is the mast raising and lowering system that allows the mast to be raised or lowered in minutes by one person with all the sails on. There is a polycarbonate hinge cover to the companionway that can connect to the full enclosure.

110-volt ac inlet with outlets in cabin, inverter, battery charger, on-demand propane hot water heater, shower with macerator pump to empty sump and holding tank, propane cabin catalytic heater(not installed). 12-volt water maker(not installed).

Engine & Mechanical

Honda 50 hp outboard on lifting bracket and connected to the tiller steering. When the outboard is up it disconnects from the lifting rudder.

Additional Information

THE TELSTAR was modified by the designer of the Telstar and the Gemini for an adventure from Annapolis MD to Alaska. The Telstar was modified to be comfortable for months on the road and in Alaska. To get more room the cockpit was modified to get a full enclosure as another room. The mast lowering was modified to accommodate the enclosure as was the folding mechanism. The Telstar was reinforced for offshore sailing with watertight bulkheads and electric bilge pumps. Everything was enlarged with more water, holding tanks, propane, and fuel
