Boat Description

We are selling Pelican, our beloved MaineCat 30 catamaran, after 15 years of enjoyment and adventure. The distinguishing features of a MaineCat 30 sailing catamaran are its speed (up to 11 knots) and its large, open deck with plenty of space and visibility, ideal for coastal cruising, liveaboard life, or day sailing adventures.

This family-friendly catamaran is a perfect family vessel. It's fun for sailors, stable enough for non-sailors, and safe for children. Even the dog can come. There is seating and some shade for eight to ten on the deck, perfect for entertaining or sunset cruises. And the bow has two trampolines for those who wish to feel the wind and sometimes water on their faces.

Two cabins are in the pontoons. On a trip, they will comfortably sleep six, ideal for overnight charters or extended sailing vacations. There is a galley with a stovetop and a refrigerator, a full bath with a shower, and plenty of storage for gear and provisions. The bridge deck can be securely enclosed with a choice of acrylic or fabric panels, connecting the two cabins. It gives a voyager the option of having a large living space when it's needed, without sacrificing open-air sailing.

There is no need for shore power, as solar panels charge the battery and run the equipment, making this energy-efficient catamaran great for off-grid sailing. It's nice to be able to stock the fridge with cold drinks even if you're on a mooring.

With two separate engines, the boat is easily maneuverable under power, especially considering its size: thirty feet long, and an unusual 18 feet wide. It's simpler to slide into a slip than you might expect. As for shore excursions, Pelican has a draft of 2 feet, so it's easy to anchor and wade to the beach. A daggerboard to let down when sailing keeps the boat stable even at impressive speed.

With our children grown, we don't have quite as much excess crew as we used to. It's time for us to go back to a smaller monohull and let another family love Pelican as much as we have.
