Staley Weidman: Yacht Sales Broker in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Hailing from Sarasota, Florida, Staley taught himself to sail on Sarasota Bay before attending Loyola University in New Orleans. While attending Loyola University Staley received a business degree in marketing and was captain of the sailing team for 3 years. While racing intercollegiate Staley was Vice President of the South Eastern Intercollegiate Sailing Association.


Staley started as a sailing instructor in 1992 for Offshore Sailing School in the BVI as well as a charter captain for The Moorings and Sunsail. He was Operations Manager of Offshore Sail and Motor Yachts, a 35 boat fleet, for 2 ½ years. Next he was Base Manager of Sun Yacht Charters/Stardust Marine in the BVI and Puerto Rico, where he managed a 90 boat charter fleet and 100 slip marina. For the next three years Staley was Yacht Sales Manager and top selling broker for Sun Yacht Charters and Stardust Marine.

In 2000, Staley moved back to Florida and became a Licensed Yacht Broker in Florida with The Catamaran Company in Ft Lauderdale. Staley has been the top selling broker there almost every year since his start. In 2003 Staley became a (Certified Professional Yacht Broker). Staley has been Lagoon Catamaran’s Broker of the Year from 2003-2005, 2008 and 2010. Since his start at The Catamaran Company, he has represented buyers and sellers in over 630 successful yacht transactions.

Since 2011 Staley has represented International Yacht Brokers Association at the CPYB, Certification Advisory Council (CAC). Several times a year Staley hosts the CPYB pre-exam study courses in Ft Lauderdale. In Nov 2018 Staley became the Chairman of the CPYB program.

In 2015 Staley was invited to be on a broker advisory board for Yachtworld.com and still provides valuable input to the yachting industry’s largest MLS.

Staley was appointed to CEO of the Catamaran Company’s Yacht Sales Division Catamaran Sales Inc. in Mid. 2015.

Show Management has asked Staley to consult on the creation of the catamaran section starting in 2015 for Ft Lauderdale International Boat Show. Now you will find a specific area for catamarans between Bahia Mar and Swimming Hall of Fame at the boat shows.

In 2016 Staley was elected to the International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA) Board of Directors and is the chairman of the IYBA Public Affairs Committee working with lobbyist to change federal laws concerning the yachting industry. This has involved creating two Federal Congressional bills to defer the importation duty on pre-owned yachts sold to us citizens HR 2369 and also removing the importation duty on pre-owned yachts HR 3662. In 2018 he directed the IYBA response to a White House executive order for Maritime Reform EX 13771 to remove importation duty on pre-owned yacht sold in US water and expects success with the revised US Customs regulations submitted to the White House Office of Management and Budget for approval.

Today Staley is active in spearfishing competitions, tournament fishing, and an accomplished power paragliding pilot

The Catamaran Company sells first 80 Sunreef Power Eco catamaran to US client.

Largest Sunreef Power Eco catamaran sold by Staley Weidman at the Catamaran Company is the 3rd Sunreef 80 the two companies have contracted.

After several months of evaluations at the end of July 2021, Staley Weidman III (CPYB) CEO of The Catamaran Company Ft. Lauderdale, FL., concluded negotiations and order confirmation for their United States based client for a new Sunreef 80 Power Eco catamaran. It is scheduled to be completed Summer 2022 and will be exhibited at the Ft Lauderdale International Boat Show Fall 2023.
