Inquire About this Boat

Boat Description

THIS PASSPORT 40 is a beautifully maintained boat and a proven world cruiser in excellent condition with many upgrades. Her two comfortable cabins include a V-berth owner’s cabin. Her teak and holly flooring with teak cabinetry are beautifully paired to create a warm, comfortable feeling in her spacious salon. A well-equipped galley aft of the U-shaped dining area and settee allows for an open feeling.

Thanks to its displacement relative to size, deep forefoot that then transitions into a cruising fin keel, skeg-hung rudder, and solid construction, this yacht has a comfortable motion in waves. It is not a racing machine, but for many cruising sailors that is exactly the point.

This boat is virtually ready to go, well kept and will not be on the market long. Many of the necessary improvements have been completed, including removal of teak decks and iron pellets from the ballast, bottom peeled and an epoxy barrier coat applied in 2012, with new bottom paint in December 2024. The rigging has also been renewed.

Engines

The engine was rebuilt in 2019 with new injectors, motor mounts, valve guides, piston rings, a heat exchanger, and a rear seal. The shaft has a dripless seal.

Steering

Cable steering.

Electrics

The boat has both 12V and 110V power systems, solar panels and a wind generator, reverse-cycle air conditioning, and LED lighting throughout.

Hull

The superstructure and decks are white GRP and were completely repainted after removal of the teak decks. The boat has a skeg-hung rudder with a long fin cruising keel and wheel steering. The aft cockpit has an excellent bimini installed in 2020. Antifouling and anodes were replaced in December 2024 in Panama. All stainless opening ports have rain shields, thru-hulls have been replaced, and the bottom was peeled and given an epoxy barrier coat in 2012 with new bottom paint applied in December 2024. The teak decks were removed and iron pellets used for ballast were taken out.

Sails and Rig

New standing rigging was installed in Grenada in 2020 and chain plates were removed and replaced in 2014. Additional rig upgrades and sail handling systems have been refitted, and a lazy bag with side shade panels was added in 2020.

Cockpit

The cockpit received new cushions in 2020 and the canvas was replaced in 2020 or 2021. Features include a teak-wrapped wheel, teak-accented seating, and a newer dodger with eisenglass and sun shades.

Saloon and Accommodation

The spacious main salon features a comfortable U-shaped settee upholstered in blue fabric in excellent condition. The adjustable dining table allows for easy conversion between dining and lounging, and there is ample storage beneath and behind the seating. To port, the well-appointed galley is thoughtfully laid out for use underway or at anchor. Forward, the private V-berth cabin includes generous storage and a solid teak privacy door. A full head with a separate shower stall provides the comfort of home on longer passages. Aft to starboard, the private aft cabin offers a cozy retreat with its own teak door for complete privacy.

Galley

The galley is U-shaped with tile countertops. It has a gimballed four-burner gas hob and oven refurbished to work excellently, 12V refrigeration with top and front loading, a top-loading 12V freezer, and a double stainless sink with both a saltwater foot pump and a fresh water hand pump.

Navigation

To starboard there is a full-size chart table and a navigation station with a labeled electrical panel and navigation electronics. The owner has provided lists of how to do almost anything on the boat.

Forward Cabin

The forward V-berth has ample storage cupboards and shelves, a hanging wardrobe, a solid teak privacy door, a hatch above, and two opening ports.

Aft Cabin

The aft cabin features a three-quarter-size bed, a hanging locker, teak shelving, two drawers under the bed, and ventilation windows.

Head

The head arrangement includes a marine toilet, a sink with a manual water pump and pressure water, a separate shower stall, and a hot-and-cold water mixer shower.

Recent Improvements

Recent work includes removal of iron pellets from the ballast, replacement of chain plates, battery updates, a new compressor for the refrigeration evaporator, new anchor chain in 2020, replacement of hoses in 2020, and replacement of thru-hulls.
