Bluewater-ready cruiser outfitted for extended autonomy and comfortable liveaboard use. This O’Day 40 presents as a robust, practical passagemaker in the 40-foot class, configured for coastal and offshore cruising with systems focused on self-sufficiency and ease of handling. The hull and deck layout support a sea-kindly motion and offer roomy accommodations that are well suited to extended cruising and liveaboard use.
Electrical independence is a key feature. A dedicated solar array combined with a wind generator charges an upgraded battery bank, providing reliable off-grid power for navigation electronics, refrigeration, lighting and general house loads. The charging system is arranged to support extended periods at anchor and remote cruising, with multiple charging sources available to replenish capacity underway and at anchor.
Sail handling has been simplified for short-handed and single-handed operation. Roller furling for the headsail, organized running rigging and serviceable deck hardware make sail changes and reefing straightforward. The standing rigging and running rigging are reported to be well maintained; sheets, halyards and control lines are led for efficient cockpit control to minimize crew workload.
Cruising systems — including deck hardware, steering and onboard service systems — are prepared to meet the demands of passagemaking. The interior offers comfortable living spaces typical of the 40-foot cruiser format, with a practical galley, dedicated berths and secure storage for extended trips. Systems supporting refrigeration, lighting and electronics have been prioritized to enhance autonomy and habitability underway and at anchor.
