Crux is an exceptional full carbon fiber performance catamaran with a superior pedigree.
The story behind the Harvey Yachts 58 Crux starts in the early days of the now world-renowned Gunboat brand. Initially built in South Africa, the early Gunboat team was led by master boat builder Phil Harvey. After many years building these iconic high-performance carbon fiber multihulls in both South Africa and the US, Phil decided it was time to head back to his hometown of Knysna, South Africa and start his own boatyard and brand called Harvey Yachts.
Phil knew that Harvey Yachts would need to produce an iconic performance catamaran on par with his beloved Gunboats but even more innovative. To accomplish this mission, he partnered with the internationally award-winning Dutch–South African design firm Simonis Voogd. With the backing of these acclaimed naval architects and a world-class boatyard at his disposal, Harvey went about building the future of high-performance catamarans.
Crux is hull number one from the Harvey Yachts line and the only 58ft model ever produced. Splashed in 2017, Crux was proof of concept for the design and construction quality of Harvey Yachts. Unfortunately, during the construction of hull number two, a similar 60ft design, Harvey experienced some challenges in his personal life that forced him to put the company up for sale. Purchased in 2018 by his yard manager Leon Scheepers in partnership with a US-based investor, Bob Hayward, Harvey Yachts was rebranded as the now-famed Kinetic Catamarans.
Kinetic Catamarans are well known in the yachting world as a leading brand building full carbon fiber, epoxy-infused, foam-cored high-performance luxury catamarans. They continued the brand partnership with Simonis Voogd to offer forward-thinking designs that drive innovation in this segment of the catamaran market. The reputation of this fantastic brand was established on the initial boats lovingly constructed by Phil Harvey himself, starting with the groundbreaking Harvey Yachts 58 Crux.
After eight years of ownership, having cruised extensively throughout the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and US East Coast, the owners of Crux are reluctantly putting her up for sale. Crux represents an exceptional opportunity to purchase a yacht of this caliber, built to the highest standards, and fully equipped for liveaboard shorthanded operations. She was built using a high-tech, all-carbon fiber construction process that emphasizes lightweight strength and performance. The major components are built using vacuum infusion of epoxy resin into dry carbon laminates, which are then assembled into the hull, deck, and bulkheads. This method ensures a void-free, high-strength structure, with interior elements such as furniture made from carbon fiber and lightweight foam-filled cabinetry with African mahogany laminate.
Crux is designed for speed. Operated from her interior helm position, her expansive real glass windows offer stunning 360-degree visibility. She has electronically controlled centerboards, which have several advantages over typical daggerboard designs and allow for shallow draft operation. Sail handling takes place from her ergonomic forward cockpit with organized running rigging led to substantial winches. Her carbon spars and boom support a modern sail plan. The hull shape was specifically designed to reduce wetted surface while offering more interior volume than other performance cats of this size. The interior volume is further increased by seven-foot headroom throughout all living spaces.
Crux is U.S. import duty and tariff paid. She is in exceptional condition, having been lovingly maintained throughout her life with an extensive refit in 2024/2025. She is fully operational and ready to continue cruising immediately. Crux is currently located in beautiful Ft Lauderdale, FL, and is available for showings by appointment.
