State of the Catamaran Brokerage Industry

Where we were last year, what’s changed this year, and how to make it work in your favor!

This year at the Miami Boat Show there was a lot of buzz on the docks. Normally the chatter is about the latest and greatest boats or equipment but this year it was all about one thing... The economy and the state of the industry. It’s a boat show so as usual according to most yacht brokers, everything is going great, but here at The Catamaran Company, we have always found that telling it straight works better for our customers. The plain truth the way we see it is that we are in a vastly different market in the catamaran business than we were just 12 months ago.

As a seller, it is important to be realistic about your expectations. If you overprice your boat today, you will scare actual Buyers away. You could very well be sitting in 90 days'' time wishing you had accepted the first offer you received but rejected it as you perceived it to be too low.

Buyers are looking at the lowest-priced boat first and will use that price as the benchmark for their offer on any of the other boats they decide to make an offer on. If your boat sits around on the market for too long, it will get stale and Buyers will start to ignore it.

As a Buyer, you are going to be able to get more bang for your buck. Don''t rush! Work with your broker and make him do his homework. Ask how many of those models he sold previously. Ask for price comparisons. Ask if he has any owners considering selling. Use a broker you can trust.

$93,889,860 worth of boats sold in 2022. That’s 131 boats in one year!
