Dux Catamarans: Inflatable Dinghies

Catamarans are also gaining speed in the dingy sector of the boat industry. These dinghies, Dux catamarans in particular, are being used by fire rescue departments and the Navy Seals. Dux catamaran inflatables range from 10 to 18 feet, but they can be built to any size.

Invented by Tom Chaffee, Dux boats have partnered up with Dan Hazel. Tom Chaffee has many years of experience in the boat building business and Dan Hazel was originally a Virginia CPA who became the master distributor for Dux Products.

Dan Hazel realized that catamaran dinghies could increase dramatically in sales, considering the fact that he has been involved in the catamaran industry for many years and had not heard of inflatable catamarans himself.

Dux Catamarans are very light; the DUX dinghy (Duxling) is 10 feet in length and weighs only 98 pounds. Even though it weighs less than 100 pounds it still has a load capacity of 1,185 pounds. These dinghies are more stable than traditional inflatables. Since they are so light, and have a smaller wetted surface area, they can use lighter motors resulting in higher fuel efficiency when compared to other inflatables. In addition, they are rated for larger motors for those who enjoy a performance inflatable.

Safety is also a big plus with these light weight craft. An innovative safety feature of the Dux boats is that inside of the hulls are from 4 to 6 air chambers. If one chamber loses air the remaining chambers stay inflated. In addition, the interior chambers are constructed of a material that is soft and flexible. The outer layer of the hull can be damaged and the interior air chamber will give with impact and has a good chance of staying inflated. Additionally, the fiberglass wing on the bow is another water tight chamber.

Dux catamaran inflatables are also very easy to store. In order to store the boat all you have to do is let the air out and roll it up to transport it without a trailer, or carry it on the deck of larger boats. All Dux catamaran inflatables have fiberglass wing bosw and aluminum transoms.

Once the word gets out on all of the advantages of Dux Catamaran Inflatables, they will replace the RIB as the inflatable of choice.
