If you've ever wondered about moving from a monohull to a catamaran or whether a catamaran is right for you and would like to know more in general about catamarans, there are a few places in which to obtain accurate information. You can refer to our past article "Catamarans VS Monohulls". If you have already reviewed these comparisons, then my Insider's Guide to Buying Catamarans is a great tool for information. In it I discuss how to save time and money, whether you should purchase new or used, sail or power, dockage, and many other useful tips to help familiarize you with what to expect when purchasing a catamaran.

"I need Financing."
Due to the downturn of the real estate market, many wishful property owners feel they have to sell their house before owning the catamaran of their choice.
Selling house/property – If you need to sell property prior to proceeding with your next yacht these solutions my help you:
- Use an equity line- You can tap un-used equity in your home now with an equity line. This will allow you the leverage the capital out of your property until it sells. The interest rate for such a short term loan will be marginal and allow you to take advantage of a boat buying opportunity in the market. The balance will be paid off at your closing.
- Get a bridge loan - This is a short term in-house loan until capital is available. Ask about details and terms.
- Borrow against securities you already own - Did you know that if you have an investment portfolio managed by a firm like Merrill Lynch you can barrow up to 80% against what you have invested at a low interest rate? This is called an "Asset management Account" We have helped clients with this loan type before. Ask us how.
- Marine financing — we can help you choose a lender that is a perfect fit for your plans. It is easy! Just complete a simple loan application with basic information and fax in copies of your last two year’s tax returns. The lender will be able to pull a credit report and let you know how much you qualify for with regards to your yacht purchase.
By being aware of your financing options, you can best determine which avenue is right for you.
"I need to know more about pricing and availability."
Most of us are used to immediate gratification after a purchase. Many who decide on a new build catamaran may have to wait in line for delivery of their vessel from the factory. However, this is not always the case. Currently we have every new Lagoon model up to the L570 in stock new and for sale. If you would like any up grades our Service Dept. will be happy to give you a quote for any option you may like.
Buyers opting for new Lagoon models can also enjoy a faster new build schedule because of the popularity of the Lagoon models. Lagoon has now almost doubled its hull molds and, as a result, sped up its production – thus allowing your new yacht to get to you faster.
It is also possible to enjoy your new catamaran ahead of the new build schedule and even at a reduced price to boot! Owning a demo boat or purchasing at a boat show are some ways to snatch that new catamaran at a lower price. Catamarans.com attends various boat shows nationwide and showcase their new inventory vessels. These vessels can be bought before the show at a reduced rate so long as the vessel can be displayed at the upcoming boat show. If timed right, the buyer can have a brand new vessel at a reduced price and most importantly, right away. You can also take advantage of a lower price at the boat shows where there are almost always boat show discounts.
If pricing is still deterring you, ask if there are any new inventory models that we are willing to release at a lower cost. This happens when there is a model that is overstocked and can help you get what you want at a better price. Once again, the timing is relevant. This is why talking with your broker about what you really desire is so important.
In conclusion, if you want that yacht, there is no reason why you shouldn’t explore your options in order to turn your dreams into reality. You may find that what you thought was holding you back, whether its lack of information, selling your property, past credit issues, or even inexperience, all are easily overcome if you look for a different avenue with the help of your broker.
