Jason graduated with distinction in Bachelor of Journalism from Rhodes University, South Africa in 1995 and spent the next two years working as editor for a number of technical business journals belonging to George Warman Publications in Cape Town
This was followed by a two-year stint as the marketing editor of Sulphur Oil & Gas Journal for CRU Publications in London which introduced him to the extremes of the English climate and the calming effects of pub life!
He returned to South Africa in late 1999 to re-skill in web programming technologies including html, asp, sql server, visual basic and flash. After completing a one year diploma in web programming Jason briefly pursued his own business in web development before signing up with Small World Digital as a full time ASP/database programmer in Cape Town.
At Small World Digital he had the pleasure of working on a number of well-known online publications such as SA sports Illustrated, SA Men's Health and SA Runner's World. He lived and breathed code relating to diverse web applications such as voting polls, forums, competition engines and surveys.
During this period he had the pleasure of helping his parents fix, sail and enjoy the ups and downs of Jambo, a Mauritius 45 monohull. Needless to say he wished it had been a Cat!
Jason stayed onboard Jambo at the Royal Cape Yacht Club for a number of months during his employment at Small World. During this time, he also completed a one-week Crew Hand & Coastal Navigation course.
Around 1992 he was invited to join the Catco Team on a short-term database contract. This turned into a six year adventure which has been an amazing ride aboard a truly innovative company with extremely talented people above and below deck!
Jason interests include reading, surfing, martial arts, guitar and learning new web technologies.
